The universal motion is in harmony, why the earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical orbit?
Science lead towards truth. Our solar system within the milky way is also in motion in this universe.
Conservation of energy and angular momentum mean that a planet's orbit around a sun is theoretically elliptical, but there are of course perturbations in a real solar system due to the influences of other planets. This is basic Sixth Form (High School in Yankese?) Newtonian physics and relatively simple maths and a quick web search will get lots of references for the maths. I'm a little curious about the harmony reference. Over extended periods of time, chaos theory is much more appropriate, especially when we look at the interaction of galaxies- the milky way is in reality anything but harmonious.
Fortunately, the earth's orbit is almost circular (a circle is a specific type of ellipse with both axes the same length) as otherwise we would have extreme changes in weather/temperature throughout the earth year and it could have made life as we know it impossible on this particular rock.
