Calling ALL Above-Ground Pool Owners!?
~i have a pool thats 12 feet round and my pool water is always green. I have the motor and filter running atleast 12 hours a day and use all the necessary chemicals. I've tried everything and I dont know what my problem is. My current filter is 1.5 horsepower but i need a stronger one. Which filters do you own? Are they any good? Do you recommend anything for this problem?

I'vee been in your shoes before, figuratively. First, your 1.5 Hp pump should be more than enough for that size pool. The filter you have should also be enough, maintenance is the key here. If its a cartridge type clean it often, use the garden hose to spray it clean. If you have a sand filter you may have to take the top off and actually clean the sand inside. When I had trouble with my pool turning green often, I found the algae was still in the filter and just recontaminating the pool. Now I clean the sand in the filter about once a month. Use the hose and tip the filter slightly, not enough for the sand to come out, but enough so the pressure of the hose displaces the sand at the bottom. You will be shocked by the dirt that comes out. Pool experts may say to just back flush, but this filter didn't evacuate all the accumulated dirt and algae and yours may not be doing it too. Use plenty of shock to get the water clear again. The water needs to circulate for it to be effective, and then re-shock it every other week. Algae and some bacteria can 'get used to' low levels of chlorine. Finally, like the other poster stated maintain the PH level, this helps the chemicals to be effective. I personally just use the shock to treat my pool, the algeacides just didn't seem as effective or as quick as super chlorination. Good luck and happy swimming.
