Lap pools are a great way to have fun and get some exercise done while you are at it. Lap pools are long pools that are usually between 40-75 feet long and hence are great for perfoming swimming laps to get exercise. Many people tend to plan and build their own lap pools. So if you have lap pool building plans, make sure you go about it the right way.

First you need to come up with a space to build the lap pool in and then you can come up with the drawings and sketches. If you plan before measuring the location, your pool might not fit into the area you have planned it for.

After you have measured the location and come up with a place for fitting a pool at least 5 feet wide and 40 feet long, you must make a scaled diagram of the pool. This means you have to accurately represent the pool on paper. You can do this by taking one foot and scaling it down to one inch on paper. So get a big sheet of paper and draw the out lines of the exact area that you measured. Then, use the ‘one inch equals to one foot’ scale to draw your lap pool as if looking at it from above.

Your lap pool building plans should contain every detail of the project. So you have figure out where the water pipes will come from and where they will go. This planning includes drainage plans as well. After making the water lines clear, you also must plan how and where you will place controls for the filling and draining of the pool.

Now you must draw a cross-section (as if looking from one side) and decide on the depth, which is usually about 3.5-4 feet. Add things like steps and tiling and you have a complete lap pool plan for yourself!
