i just installed a heater element in a g.e dryer, turned it on and i smelt a burning is this common?
The people that manufactured your element, put a light coating of oil on it to keep it from rusting on the shelf. This is very common, and will disapate in few minutes. If it doesn't, remove the cover and take a look. Be sure a wire or lint didn't come in contact with it.
