The Swimming Pool Sand Filter Is Tough On Dirt

A swimming pool sand filter is known as the strongest pool filters available on the market.

Depending on what you need, though, a sand filter may not be the best option – but the choice is up to you.

Sand filters remove the least amount of dirt (if you are comparing micron-to-micron) but are most certainly the toughest kind of filter.

Pool filters work differently to each other, each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Here is how the sand filter works :

The theory behind pool sand filters is very much the same as a coffee or espresso machine.

Water travels into the tank through the diffuser, and is pushed through filter sand.

As it goes down through the sand, dirt and debris is trapped in the sand.

This dirt actually contributes to the filtering process.

Dirty water stays on the top while the clean water travels through the filter and exits through the bottom.

However, as the filter sand becomes more and more blocked with all the debris and dirt, the filter pressure increases and the water flow naturally begins to become less and less.

This is why it is recommended to clean a sand filter at least once a week during swimming season.

Cleaning is done manually through 'backwashing' the filter (running the filter in reverse.)

Once backwashing is complete, you need to run the rinse mode which repacks the sand.

A lot of water can be wasted during this process, however, and the pool would have to be refilled with more water manually.

Sand filters are sufficiently cheap and easy to refill if the sand gets really dirty, and there is not much that can actually go wrong with the mechanics and the sand filter process.

For this reason the swimming pool sand filter is incredibly durable and very reliable.
