Pool Filter Reviews To Help You Choose What's Best For Your Pool
Looking for pool filter reviews? Below we review the three options you are faced with.
For both above ground and in-ground pools there are three types of filters you can choose from.
Your choice on filter would depend on both the size of the pool and the location of the pool (whether it can get dirty easily etc.)
Each filter type has advantages and disadvantages, and it is important to review them to help make the right decision.
1)DE Filters
All major brands (like Hayward, Sta-Rite, Waterway) have their own version of DE Filters, but there are really only three types –
Spin DE, Regenerative DE and Vertical grids.
The process of filtering is still the same, but it is just the design that has changed.
Spin DE arranges the coated DE grids vertically, along a turning shaft.
This allows the grids to be recoated or dislodged with the DE.
Regenerative DE is when the grids are more like tubes which recoat with DE when the pump is turned on. Vertical grids operate more like sand
filters but with DE.
DE Filters are able to filter out dirt particles as little as 3 microns, but due to the high pressure system can often cause problems with the
pool pumps and with water flow.
They may be expensive to refill compared to sand filters as well.
2)Cartridge Filters
Cartridge filters come in two types – replaceable cartridges (replaced regularly) or non replaceable (need to be cleaned, and only replaced in
five or so years.)
Both of these can be quite expensive in their own way.
They also run on less pressure than DE, but they do not clean the water as well.
They do clean better than sand filters, however. Cartridge filters may require some maintenance as well.
3)Sand Filters
Sand filters require a backwashing process when cleaning, which results in significant water loss and other issues.
Sand filters do not produce the cleanest of water compared to all the other filters, but do require less (and cheaper) maintenance.
They run at a higher pressure than cartridges, but do tend to be more reliable and last longer than all the other types of filters.
We hope these pool filter reviews help you make up your mind on what type you want for your pool.
